What is the size of the boot record
The boot record is about 512 bytes which is just enough code to initiate the loading of
the two hidden system files.
7. What happens after IO.SYS is loaded and why is this done?
After IO.SYS is loaded, the boot record is no longer needed and is replaced in RAM
by other code because IO.SYS then takes over the rest of the boot up.
8. What routine does IO.SYS contain that assumes control of the boot process and what
does it load next?
IO.SYS contains extensions to the ROM BIOS and a routine called SYSINIT which
manages the rest of the boot up. SYSINIT then loads MSDOS.SYS into RAM.
9. What does MSDOS.SYS do?
MSDOS.SYS works with the BIOS to manage files, execute programs, and respond
to signals from hardware.
10. What does SYSINIT do after loading MSDOW.SYS?
SYSINIT searches the root directory of the boot disk for a file named CONFIG.SYS
after loading MSDOW.SYS.
11. What is CONFIG.SYS and what is its function?
