Improved medical technology/practice - more babies with dangerous births are more likely to survive, but often have disabilities (ex: babies now survive at much lower birth weights) Various theories about integration of people with disabilities into society. Normalization - use means which are culturally normative to establish behaviors and characteristics that are as culturally normative as possible (more inclusion) Deinstitutionalization - people with disabilities used to be institutionalized, but this practice is not common now, people with disabilities integrate as smoothly into society as possible while having their needs met by various services. Inclusion is a commonly debated topic in the world of special education. Full inclusion - all students with disabilities attend general education classrooms in their neighborhood schools for the entire day and general educators have the primary responsibility for all students with disabilities.
