The only 100% method of contraception is abstinence/no uterus. Inform couples about protection, for both sti risk and any other risks associated w/ contraception use. Coitus interruptus: pull-out method; 27% failure rate. Fertility awareness methods (fam): no sex during fertile periods; combines charting menstrual cycle w/ abstinence and other contraceptive methods; 25% failure rate. Natural family planning: umbrella term for a lot of different ways for figuring out when we are fertile and planning that way; eggs only live 12 24 hrs; sperm can live 3-5 days. Calendar rhythm: requires 6 months of known period intervals; will subtract 18 and 11 from the first day of last menstrual period; subtract 18 from shortest, Ovulation method: looks at cervical mucus; a few dry days where you don"t have vaginal discharge; right before ovulation there"s more discharge; more sticky = more ovulation. Symptothermal method: use a combinatino of methods; palpating the cervix .
