PSYC2274 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Ganglion Cell, Amacrine Cell, Visual Acuity
Document Summary
Notes: exam #1 moved from february 15 february 20th!! Ganglion cell receptive fields are similar to bipolar cell rfs. Sort of inherited from the bipolar cells that provide input to them. Don"t have ability to respond to light on their own but doesn"t mean they don"t have rfs! They receive input from bipolar cells that do respond to light. Millions of ganglion cells that have rfs at a different spot on the retina. Response to light expressed in changes to frequency of action potentials! Every point on the retina corresponds with a point in space . A point out in space where light coming from can produce a response in that neuronganglion cell! 2 different cells m and p cells. P cells (cid:1445)small cells(cid:1446) that connect to the parvocellular pathway in the brain. Involved in fine visual acuity (ability to identify/recognize small objects), color (information about wavelength will be transmitted selectively by neurons in parvocellular pathway), and shape processing.
