Document Summary
Trying to talk about the act of painting as it is conducted in time and changing spacial projections upon and behind the painting. Not interested in painting forms but the relations between them. 2 kinds of space in pictoral representation: visual way in which objects are separated from one another, tactile way in which objects are separated from us. Drawing upon cezanne: objects do not exist for me except in so far as there is a harmonious relationship between the objects themselves and between the object and myself. Decorative figure (1925-1926: geometrical and sculptural, set against an intensely decorated background, head is much smaller than the body and the legs are not similar. Taken parts from past figures to organize the whole: dreams and craziness of them help us heal ourselves, borders on surrealism, fruit and tree. Could refer back to the garden of eden. Seated bather (1930: pi(cid:272)asso"s aggressi(cid:448)e rea(cid:272)tio(cid:374) to matisse.
