How impacts research questions, field methods, interpretation: history of archaeology, practice of american archaeology (1900-1920) Split from classical archaeology + prehistory as practiced in europe; Classical arch: closely aligned to ancient history, the study of literature, biblical scholars. Began to develop the 4 field approach: cultural anthro, linguistic anthro, bioarch, ethnography. Study of indigenous peoples (study of native american societies) National museum in washington dc established in 1846 by us congress.
