Cultural anthropology --> "makes the strange familiar and makes the familiar strange" It could serve as a "cultural critique": a lesson that we could do things differently. If it is set up as explanation of nurture as opposed to nature it may lead us to discount the utility of biological or psychological explanation, and lose power of these disciplines. Is having a single culture the norm for humans or is the norm being someohow a part of multiple cultures or being on the obrder between cultures. Culture concept --> imagine the world as a giant zoo (lots of different "exhibits" of culture) How do we categorize people who are on the fringe of a culture or straddle two cultures. Samoans thought that their culture was the pinnacle of culture and that their standard of beauty had no flaws as they did not directly compare their culture to anyone elses their culture to anyone elses.
