Materials an products for sustainable sites: minimize resource use, have low ecological impacts, incur low to no human and environmental health risks, assist with sustainable site strategies. Use fewer materials, reuse (can reduce transportation impacts by doing this as well), design smaller structures, use durable materials so that they will last the life of the site, use materials/products with recycling potential. Use sustainably acquired materials to eliminate or mitigate pollution, use low embodied energy (total energy used during life cycle), use materials produced using renewable energy sources (solar, wind), use local materials to decrease transportation costs and effects. Use low-emitting materials/products, avoid toxic chemicals and by-products.
