Document Summary

Sociology 8/24: the systematic study of human behavior in social context, one of the founders of sociology: durkheim studied suicide. Established there"s a social context as to why this occurs. Didn"t look at a specific individual alone rather the society/ social reasons: society. American society shapes how we do things: vague because not the whole society. Margaret tatcher said there"s no such thing as society. Broken down into the two areas below: interaction, social relations. As an individual, how are you related to family, institution, etc. Relations to family, school, neighborhood, etc. all shape you. Social relations shape people"s behavior, not society alone: social structures. The kind of neighborhood you live in, your resources (car and distance of job) influences how long you would stay in one place. The physical structure does shape whether you"ll be more in your neighborhood or not. That influences you relations outside of the neighborhoods with others. The physical, set structures shape behavior too.
