PHIL 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Simulated Reality, Virtual Reality, Ontological Argument
Document Summary
The nature of the human mind, and how it is better known than the body. Descartes feels like he"s fallen into a hole, but is determined to keep going and hope for great things and find something that is solid and certain. Descartes comes to the conclusion that he exists because he convinced himself of something especially if he is capable of being deceived. In order to fully understand what i" is, descartes must trace back what he used to believe and eliminate anything that could be questioned and keep only the certainty. He is something because he convinced himself of something. Descartes can"t call himself a man because it raises up too many other questions so he looks at the body and what it has, he finds it strange that it moves itself. He can"t be certain of what he is because he is being deceived, though convinced himself a thinking thing because he is certain he is thinking.
