Document Summary

A process by which substances move into or out of cells, or are distributed to cells. 2 different features: absorption: passage of materials into cells, circulation: distribution of materials within the cell and throughout the organism. Reproduction, support, transport, respiration, nutrition, growth, excretion, regulation, synthesis. Intracellular by diffusion, cytoplasmic streaming (cyclosis) and possibly the er. Within a complex, multicellular organisms circulatory system. Fluid flowing through tubes (opened & closed systems) Acts as a link between cells in a complex organism and the environment. Consists of 3 parts: fluid: where materials are transported, tubes: network of tubes or body space where fluid flows, pump: something to move the fluid (a pump or heart) Blood away from heart, to organs and tissues of the body. Thick, elastic with muscle tissue that contracts. Blood returning back to heart from body. Red blood cells go through in single file. Collect intercellular fluid bathing all cells and drains it back into blood system.
