Slavery has been essential b/c they were the first big businesses, labor had to be controlled and managed. In this sense columbus" voyage was very important. Things we thought were tradition were created when columbus came to america, columbus coming joined together europe, africa and asia. They used to be very different w/ different plants, animals and diseases, but america brought them together: irish potatoes, from americas. No horses before columbus came to america: arrival of columbus merged 2 hemispheres that transformed societies everywhere.
