Document Summary

In the brain gray matter is superficial to white matter. In the spinal cord white is superficial to gray: csf can be found in the central canal and the subarachnoid space, posterior horn- always more narrow, extended. Pathway that brings sensory info in the brain: sensory info eventually ends up in primary somatosensory cortex. Passes through thalamus on route to primary somatosensory cortex. In unipolar neuron the axon would end up in the posterior horn of the spinal cord. Gray matter: the sensory information coming in towards the spinal cord from the periphery are afferent. Individual axons within are bundled into fascicles covered with perineurium. Spinal nerve: the anterior ramus goes on to become the spinal nerve, the spinal nerve is a mix of afferent and efferent fibers. Neurons in pathways: the 1st neuron is called the primary neuron, the 2nd neuron is called the secondary neuron, the 3rd neuron is called the tertiary neuron.
