Document Summary
Primacy effect- items at the beginning of a list list are easiest to remember. Recency effect- items at the end of the list are easiest to remember. Partial reinforcement- adding reinforcement at 4 different intervals, not adding reinforcement every time like continuous reinforcement; helps reduce extinction of what is being learned. Fixed ratio-reinforcement is based on the number of predetermined occurrences of behavior, behavior increases at a rapid rate. Variable ratio- reinforcement is random in relation to occurrences of the behavior, behavior tends not to extinguish. Fixed interval- reinforcement is based on a predetermined time, behavior increases at a moderate rate. Variable interval- reinforcement occurs at an unpredictable time, behavior changes not desired; superstitious behavior. Operant conditioning- a method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior. Neutral operants: responses from the environment that neither increase nor decrease the probability of a behavior being repeated.
