61 views4 pages

Document Summary

We need to identify each source of sound over time. We have cues that help us do it (we talked about this last time). Speech is streams of sounds that we produce in order to communicate. The perception of speech is dependent on how the speech is produced and how we process the incoming signal as a listener. Speech perception does not only involve the identi cation of the sound and the source. It is no taking us a long time to understand what the professor is saying we do it pretty rapidly. Speech perception is really challenging we need to understand what someone is saying across a range of contexts with a lot of variability. There is a lot of variability in incoming speech and we need to understand it regardless of the variability. We need to take into account the words that we emphasize, the pitch, the amplitude and the person who is talking.
