Psychoanalytic: freud, oedipus complex and electra complex. Biological model: hormones, lateralization of the brain. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (females exposed to larger amounts of androgens prenatally) lower expressive, higher instrumental. Twins: the case of bruce (brenda) and david- born male twins. Bruce was castrated as a child due to a medical condition. Bruce was raised as a girl, brenda, but he rejected it and said he felt like a boy. Males are more likely to become aphasic more lateralized. These differences could be a result of experience. Gender stability (age 4)- gender doesn"t change over time. Gender constancy- both gender stability and consistency are present. By kohlberg"s theory, gender typed behavior would arise around age 5-7, but children at age 2 maintain and reinforce gender typing. Kids remembered pictures that reinforced gender-stereotypic roles vs. not. Parents: organizers of a child"s experiences and can shape a child"s gender typing. Kids are treated differentially based on their sex.
