-In the beginning, say yes to everything !
•how you build your portfolio and experience!
-“Excuse me, officer, is he dead?”!
•this will be hard but to figure out!
-“All I could ask for was to be loved. And I could never get it.”!
•The “opioid crisis” is shorthand for a cascade of social issue, which are linked
by opioid abuse!
•Crime. Mental health treatment. homelessness. Child abuse. Sexual abuse.
Poverty. Exploitation of the poor and vulnerable by the rich.!
•Always ask: What system or systems are set up to deal with this problem, and
where are they breaking down? Who benefits, and who suffers? Suffering is
often disproportionately felt by already powerless communities, and benefits
are often accrued by the already wealthy and powerful!
•“When this is all said and done, you have to decided the following: Are we the
good guys or the bad guys?!
-Dealing ethically with troubled sources!
•Explain the rules of the interview first!
•Documents, text messages, contemporaneous accounts!
•People will lie to you. You cant’ always tell. Don’t trust your “gut feeling.” Trust
your reporting.!
-Managing risk!
•Do you go in the house? Do you get√ in the car? Do you walk down the alley?!
-Carry mace!
-Let someone know where you are!
- Wear shoes you can run in!
