Captures the issue you"re writing about and your stance on it (it doesn"t have to be super- specific) Line under the headline with the name of the author. Usually built around what"s in the news. After reading the lede, the reader should know your stance on the issue. Not a 5 w"s (who, what, when, where, and why) situation. The lede can be: an anecdote (humanizes the article, statistical info to frame the issue, historical approach how did we get here , can be hooked to an anniversary (should be a round number, ex. 25th, 50th: talk about an upcoming event, there are other ways to approach it. Clearly identifies the issue and your exact position. Should be 1 sentence to 1 paragraph long. Series of points backed up with other proof points. Should be made up of 2-3 argument points. The argument is the bulk of the op ed.
