Third party logistics (3pl): the outsourcing of logistics management. Some use third party just for shipment or for warehouse. Reverse logistics / closed-loop supply chain: process of transporting returned items. Radio frequency identification (rfid): technology that uses radio waves to track goods in the supply. Defective products, unsold products, recycled etc. chain (ex: barcodes) Allows managers know how many units are in stock. Direct shipment - items shipped directly from suppliers retail stores. Warehousing - items are stocked in warehouses (ex distribution centers) and shipped to stores as required. Cross docking - warehouses are shipping coordination points (instead of inventory storage points) Items are loaded and unloaded for redistribution in one location with minimal handling and storage. What orders can be aggregated (combined) before shipment. Order fulfilment - process used to respond to customer orders. But cannot get 100gb: make-to-stock (mts) - production is based on forecast and products are sold to customers from finished goods stock.
