Document Summary

Pick up from previous class: september 26, 2016. Turn into the 20th century, middle and upper class female reformers began reaching out to working class women. Which ultimately brought them into the suffrage effort. In 1895 female reformers established the national consumers league. Chapters of the ncl in turn, established throughout the country. In 1903 female reformers established the women"s trade. In the aftermath of the collapse of the knights of labor, no major labor organization unionized female workers. Thus, the wtul was warranted to fix that issue and began unionizing, unions of female workers. So, to lobby for safe working conditions, to ensure they were earning decent wages, limiting the number of hours they would be required to work daily, weekly. The first few decades of the 20th century the wtul had organized several labor strikes as female workers strikes to push for those things.
