Pick up from previous class: october 3, 2016. When the u. s became directly involved in wwi, it did so under the provision of president. Those 14 points included things like freedom of the seas , Freedom of trade to end colonial empires and as a result of wwi, the hapsburg dynasty (which had been around for centuries operating out of austria) collapsed. Dynasty (which was around for centuries, operated out of russia) collapsed as well. Ottoman empire (which was around for centuries, operated out of turkey), also collapsed. A concept known as self determination of nations where the people in a nation-state would decide for themselves what form of government they would have and who their political leaders would be. So, no rule from outsiders but from people within. The centerpiece of the 14 points was president wilson supporting the establishment of a league of nations. this was kind of a fore-runner for the united nations down the road.
