Document Summary

The greeks word for reason was logos, which directly translates into using words (thinking). Faith can mean belief or it can mean trust. Justin martyr believes christianity is to be found through reason. The prophets (or rather that their prophecies are coming true) Martyr believes the goal of plato"s philosophy is to gaze upon god, but this is not true. Plato argues that there is one god, and this god is not the form of good. God looks to the form of good (which he can do because he is divine) in trying to make his creations good. Plato makes it okay to question what god is telling people, and if it isn"t good, it probably didn"t come from god. Plato believed sense could only give you appearances and therefore you can only trust what you get from them, not know for certain. Dogmatism: believe this or else (must obey) One definite truth - seek until you find, then believe.
