PSY 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Bath & Body Works, Retina, The Blind Spot
Document Summary
Imagine that there are 2 envelopes, one has 2 quarters, the other has 1 quarter. You must choose which envelope has 2 quarters compared to the other. If you did this with shoes, you would not be able to tell the difference. We don"t notice the exact amount of chance, we notice the proportional amount of change. We must change the weight by at least 2% to notice it. Imagine you"re a salesperson for clothing for men on commission. Somebody comes in wanting clothes for job interview, the whole clothing ensemble. You would want to sell the man the suit first before the socks. You would do this because once you buy the 400 dollar suit, you may as well buy the super expensive socks because you already went over the budget you had. Change from 0-30 is a lot, where as 400-430 is not.
