The 3 components of personality- all were in tension with each other. The id- part that demands instant gratification ex. crying infant. The superego- sense of right or wrong. what is moral & immoral. The ego- judge and jury between the above components. The unconscious- where a lot of our actions are driven from. Many of our impulses are forced into the unconscious and affect our daily lives. Psychic energy- we have limited energy that we need to deal with our daily life. If we use too much of it, we won"t have enough left to deal with out depression and anxiety disorders. Defense mechanisms- strategies that we adopt to keep the anxious and nervous stuff outside of our thought process. Repression- forcefully pushing something into the unconscious. Each one of us is drawn toward death. ex. firefighter saves lives. Displacement- taking the negative impulse and channeling it towards something that will lead you to no harm.
