Pica: kids eating things they shouldn"t (ex: paper) the less communication needs are met, the more self injurious behaviors happen. Often uses some of the same tests given to students with intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities. Functional behavioral assessment (fba): describe nature of behaviors, gather information from involved parties, determine why student engages in problem behavior, hypothesize relationship bt behavior and events before, during, and after behavior. Incorporate functional assessment info into iep: help student develop alternative behaviors.
