• Nineteen women were executed in Salem
• Main Names:
o Reverend Samuel Parris-local man who had his daughter
and niece living with him; asks a doctor who tells him that
a eil had is at pla ad to cotiue to atch the;
they ask they girls for names; other girls start acting
strange (these girls were between 9-19);
o Sarah Good-did not confess to witchcraft;
o Sarah Osborne-did not confess to witchcraft;
o Tituba-confessed as guilty and was executed; she was a
servant from in the Parris household; either West African
or Indian; was practicing fortune telling with the girls;
o Reverend George Burroughs-was brought from Maine to
be put on trial and executed for witchcraft
• Trails lasted 9-10 months
• 154 people in jails
• 14 women and nine men executed for witchcraft
• Puritans very much believed in good and evil in everyday life and signs
from God
• Despite naming names, the strange behavior continued
