Used to exist as heart of karnak (temple: holiest part of temple. Thutmose i finished decoration on south wall of amenhotep i"s calcite chapel: added self to chapel rather than construct own veneration; also finished. Amenhotep"s: enlarges karnak, builds 4th, 5th pylons, hypostyle hall with cedar columns, colossal statues, each with (see ppt, thutmose i"s obelisk outside 4th pylon. Palaces, etc built of mud-brick more easily destroyed; hard to find some of those buildings: nile also moved (did not affect karnak) Ineni: overseer of works at karnak, theban tomb (tt) 81 used to be fancy and elaborately decorated.
