Any time that a human uses an animal, they are exploiting it. How a human takes care of the animals which they exploit determines the welfare of those animals. Meat is more calorically dense than plants: this is only important if calories are a limiting component of the diet. Humans are super-predators because of their use of projectile weapons. Carnivores tend to be more intelligent than herbivores. Humans must often overcome a size disadvantage when hunting their prey.
