BIOL-2110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Vinyl Chloride, Cytochrome P450, Alkylation
Document Summary
Of small blood vessels in bone, hands, toes. Exposure to extremely high concentrations of vinyl chloride. Meaning the more person is exposed to compound = worse the cancer/ incidence of cancer will be. Compound metallothionein in liver stores the cadmium metal. When mt goes to kidneys its filtered out in the glomerulus. Then gets reabsorbed and broken down by protease. Once broken down the mt releases the cadmium which is then let lose in the kidney causing damage. Reduce blood flow and cause ischaemic necrosis from lack of oxygen/nutrients to tissue. Itai-itai disease: brittle bones because of calcium loss. Hydroxylation at nitrogen atom followed by conjugation of hydroxyl group w/ glucuronic acid. When conjugate is excreted in urine it breaks down (b/c of acidity) and forms a reactive metabolite. Bile not transported to gallbladder and instead circulates in the blood stream. Use: industrial use for insulation and building material. Inhalation hazard during demolition of buildings containing asbestos.
