Document Summary

Biol 2230: heart physiology and blood vessels (lecture 9) Congestive heart failure-dangerously low cardiac output: coronary atherosclerosis-fat build-up in vessels, persistent high blood pressure-classified as above 90 diastolic, myocardial infarctions- heart attacks, dilated cardiomyopathy- stretch of ventricles. Starts as separate tubes of endothelial tissue: the linings form before the muscle. 23 days post-conception- 2 tubes fuse to create a single chambered heart: after 25 days, chambers begin to form. By day 46, the chambers differentiate and d-looping occurs (heart flips upside down) The hole between the atria before birth. Tuesday, february 20, 2018: the mom"s blood (o2 rich) will go into the left atria so blood isn"t sent to lungs in baby. Short cut between pulmonary artery and the aorta: very little blood will go to lungs and will only go their lungs to help in development. Closes at birth to form the ligamentum arteriosum.
