Listening is an important skill in life from student to ceo. Appreciative listening: listening or pleasure or enjoyment like listening to music. Empathetic listening: listening to provide emotional support like a psychiatrist. Comprehensive listening: listening to understand the message of a speaker like in class. Critical listening: listening to evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or rejecting like a sales pitch. Spare brain time : difference between the rate at which most people talk (120/150 words per minute) and the rate at which the brain can process language (400/800 words per minute) Focus on the details and miss the main point. You cheat yourself when you prejudge and do not listen. Active listening: giving undivided attention to a speaker in a genuine effort to understand the speaker"s point of view. Mentally review what the speaker is said.
