Self-awareness: first and most basic social knowledge, recognition that one is an individual separate from other people. Self-concept: combination of physical and psychological attributes, abilities, attitudes, and values that define a person and make him or her an individual, proceeds from concrete, simplistic definitions to more abstract. Judgment (evaluative component: extent to which people value and like themselves as well as perceive that they are valued by others. Very early childhood (2-4 years: physical characteristics, abilities, possessions, relationships, preferences. Early to middle childhood (5-7 years: comparisons with self (i can run faster now than i used to, shift from here and now to thinking about past, present and future. Internal qualities: emotional references, comparisons to peers. Three areas- worth- extents to which people value and like themselves as well as perceive they are valued by others. Competence- degree to which individuals believe that they can accomplish things and achieve their goals.
