1. Schizoaffective Disorder - uninterrupted period of illness with a major mood episode,
concurrent with having symptoms of schizophrenia
Delusions or hallucinations outside of the mood episode
Diagnosed as having a bipolar or depressive type
A mood episode is a major depressive episode or manic episode
Perceptual Aberration (altered perceptions).
Anhedonia
Social and emotional scales
People don’t enjoy things people typically enjoy
In all of these disorders, person is experiencing some psychotic episode. Symptoms of
psychosis (loss of contact with reality). Manic Episode and Depression can have symptoms of
psychosis.

Alternative Model for Personality Disorders
1. Personality Disorder - Trait Specified. This is long lasting, not just temporary
The person is having two problems. Moderate or greater impairment in 2 or more
areas of personality functioning. There is a problem with two or more of the areas
below:
Impairment in self
i. Identity - sense of who we are and how we fit in to the world. Someone
with a healthy identity experiences themselves as unique and have clear
boundaries between ourselves and others. Person with good boundaries
has good self esteem, accurate self appraisal, have a capacity for and an
ability to regulate emotional experiences.
ii. Self direction - the ability to figure out what you want, short term and life
term goals. Ability to self reflect productively.
Impairment in interpersonal functioning
i. Empathy - tolerance of differing perspective. Understanding of how other
people few
ii. Intimacy - having the capacity to have deep and long lasting connections
with other people. A desire for closeness.
5 major normal human traits: OCEAN
i. Openness to experience
1. Psychoticism - extreme openness to experience. So open that it is
an issue. So interested in trying new things that they go off the
deep end. Unusual behaviors and cognition.
ii. Conscientiousness - the extent to which you are reliable. Doing what you
say you are going to do
