For the first time, communication was separated from transportation. The communication of information was faster that humans for the first time information got around faster. It was now easier to coordinate large scale efforts over space and time. Over time, printing presses became faster and bigger. Advancements included two sides printing, mechanical processing, halftones (other grey tones), and eventually color printing (a lot of papers did not use it because it was expensive, Until usa today stared doing it and others were forced) Typesetting: once was done by hand, can now be done by machines. Photojournalism really took off around the time of the civil war people wanted photos of what was really happening. Photos were reproduced as engravings. (every time you repeat or reuse, you lose some of the quality) Mathew grady, took most of the civil war pictures. People had to sit still for a long time no action pictures.
