PSY 260 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Eye Contact, Cortisol
Document Summary
What was chris"s comment regarding dads in early childhood. Dad"s don"t necessarily play a role because children are more attached to the mother. Because they"ve seen them grow and develop on a daily basis. Raising a child and seeing that child grow and develop right in front of him. Joy and laughter develop in ages 2 to 4 months. Eye contact starts around the same time. Takes a few weeks longer for preterm babies. Sadness develops in early months as well. Too much sadness in infancy is correlated with depression later. Separation anxiety - clinging and crying when a familiar caregiver is about to leave. Normal at age 1, worsens by 2 and then drops off. Separation anxiety after age 3 is considered an emotional disorder. 1 year olds are afraid of anything unexpected. Babies can come to enjoy all of the things that once scared them as they learn. Anger and fear become less frequent and more focused.
