Outward transport to axon terminal is anterograde. Backward transport to nerve cell body is retrograde. Both have two globular heads that attach to the microtubule. Organelles attached to both can switch directions along the microtubule. The tail domains are different in kinesin and dynein and contain the binding sites to organelles. Different tail domains bind to different organelles. Microtubules keep the organelles together: without it they will diffuse away. 2 alpha helices that have a hydrophobic stripe and they twist around each other. N termianl domain is the head and is atp-binding.
