Constitution would replace the articles of confederation only if 9/13 states approve: each state debated in state conventions whether or not to accept the. Hamilton & madison were major drafters of the constitution: they were federalists who supported the constitution and the rise of the national government. Anti-federalists said that the constitution is a triple-headed monster (3 branches) No federal judiciary, no second chamber of congress (only the continental congress), no president: the constitution would make all these a reality. The articles of confederation believed in power in the periphery, little power in the center: supported state legislatures because they would replace the king, didn"t support state governors. 1777-1786 time period supported the power from the state legislatures: power went from intellectuals to the hands of the masses (farmers) passed shitty laws that only favored them. Patrick henry= leader of the antifederalists: debated against madison in the virginia ratifying convention.
