Document Summary

Loops of henle: filtrate from bowman"s capsule 300 mosm, descending loop of henle, h2o reabsorption, ascending loop of henle, na+, k+ & cl- reabsorption (active transport, peritubular capillaries flow in the opposite direction. Ascending loop of henle: h2o impermeable, na+ cl- k+ secondary active transport, to ecf, diffuses to blood. Descending loop of henle: only permeable to h2o, countercurrent multiplier, medullary osmotic gradient, h2o ecf vasa recta vessels. Glucose & na+ reabsorption: descending loop of henle. Na+, k+ & cl- reabsorption: distal tubule and collecting duct. Vasopressin: camp and other second messengers, aquaporins (water pores, new aquaporins in plasma membrane. Loops of henle: dilute the filtrate, create osmotic gradient in kidneys, sodium reabsorption. Collecting duct: aldosterone regulates, na+ recycled or excreted. Mechanism of na+ selective reabsorption in collecting duct. Aldosterone: steroid hormone: released from adrenal cortex, stimulates na+ uptake (& k+ secretion, channel synthesis and regulates existing proteins.
