Charles spearman (1863-1945): factor analysis of different skills and foud that if someone scored high on one skill, generally score high on other skill types. So, people had high g (general intelligence: factor analysis: stat technique- how different variables relate to one another, ex: iq score. People with high emotional intelligence often have other beneficial traits such as ability to delay gratification while pursuing long term goals. Level of emotional intelligence, including skill of reading emotions of others correlates with success in career and other social situation. Ex: children who could delay gratification made more money as adults. Consists of e use of symbols to represent, transmit, and store meaning/ information: symbols: organized pattern of sounds, visual representations, and movements, meaning: concepts, quantities, plans, identity feelings, ideas, facts, and customs. We can hear about and understand phenomena we have never experience. Makes plans and have others carry them out.
