Evolutionary basis: more common to fear snakes than flowers. In the absence of experience we are less likely to fear guns or electoral outlets. One trial learning: harsh reaction one time and you learn from it (i. e. food poisoning: know the function of the following major parts of the brain: The amygdala:name comes from shape almond;integrative center for emotions, emotional behavior, and motivation. Hypothalamus/ thalamus: involved broadly with regulating behavior and emotion; function primarily as a relay between the forebrain and lower brain stem; some consider part of the forebrain. Parietal: body sensations, pressure, touch, feeling, monitoring body position. Temporal: recognizing various sights and sounds; long term memory storage. Frontal(prefrontal cortex): responsible for higher cognitive functions; planning, sensory image processing, emotional, thinking; synthesizes all new info and decides how to respond; enables us to relate to the world around us.
