Children"s developing minds (smith) theory of mind = having an understanding of other people as people who have desires, beliefs and their own interpretations of the world. Other people"s beliefs may differ from our own. In this version, 4-year olds succeeded while 3-year olds still couldn"t master the task. Children"s knowledge of mind before about 4 years of age. Predicting behaviour: 3-year-olds realize that other people"s behaviour is based on their belief about the world and that those beliefs may be incomplete. =>but: they do not yet realize that people can act on the basis of a belief that is inaccurate. In general, developing achieve understanding of false belief between 4 and 5 years of age. Second-order belief": involves understanding that someone else can have beliefs about a third person (e. g. i think that jack thinks that jill thinks that the marble is in the basket) => a slightly later achievement in childhood.
