Document Summary
Pronunciation is the accepted standard of how a word sounds when spoken. Mispro(cid:374)u(cid:374)(cid:272)iatio(cid:374) da(cid:373)ages a speaker"s (cid:272)redi(cid:271)ility, the heart of a speaker"s ethos. Closely related to pronunciation is articulation, or physically producing the sound needed to convey the word. A dialect is a sort of subgroup of a language, and it can result in some miscommunication between a speaker and an audience when an audience is either unaware of or cannot decipher a speaker"s diale(cid:272)t. Slang are words derived from dialects that most people understand but do not use in professional writing or speaking. Vocalic is anything that contributes to the creation or maintenance of sound in a perso(cid:374)"s voi(cid:272)e. Tone is the syllabic emphasis on a sound that expresses emotion or meaning. Monotone deliveries can quickly bore the audience and distract them from the purpose and goals of the speech itself. Tone also expresses different emotions when you adjust it for specific words.
