Too proud to fight president woodrow wilson. The new republic: progressive thinkers thought that it was a war about empire, competition, etc. 1916, woodrow wilson running for presidency again. Fourteen points (1918): wilsonianism: no secret treaties, national self-determination, free trade/capitalism, make the american system the world system. Nationalized railroads and telephone/telegraph: government takes over and runs the industries. Espionage act, 1917: illegal to interfere in military ops in any way.
