Document Summary

Just because a program works, it does not necessarily mean it works as well as it could have or that it has given you a base for the future. Science vs. art: the professor teaches us the science behind program design as students/practitioners, we use express that science creatively to enhance effectiveness, practicality, and motivation: law 4: methods are many, concepts are few. Because they do not change stimulus; a lack of change in stimulus means there is no change in adaptation. Progressive overload: progressively doing heavier weights or higher intensities over time to elicit adaptation. Training specificity: to elicit a specific adaptation, train for that adaption: strength training will not give endurance; endurance training will not give strength. Planned variation in training variables to: decrease the chances of overtraining, maximize performance at the desired time (peaking). Components of periodization: macrocycle: entire training year (there are 4 within 1 year for olympic athletes), mesocycle: divisions of the training year.
