Document Summary
Biological factors are closely related to all behavior and mental processes. Biological processes are influenced by the environment (ex: friend"s heights)- you can get taller by other factors than your family genes. If a behavior or mental process has a strong biological basis, you may still be able to make changes (ex: smoking) Ex: the prof"s brother is 6"3"" even though they are asian. Hormones- endocrine system- massive communication (email system) Brain and spinal cord (encased in bone) All nerves and neurons connecting cns to the rest of the body. Two types of cells found in the nervous system. Glial cells (surrounds, supports, and provides nutrition for neurons) No neurons are exactly alike (like snowflakes) Dendrites: detects signals from other axons, conveys information to cell body. Soma (cell body): contains nucleus (life-sustaining functions): receives info from dendrites. Axon: carries information away from soma to other neurons; one axon per soma, but many branches.
