PSYC 2012 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Peripheral Nervous System, Somatic Nervous System, Central Nervous System
Document Summary
Week 1: intro to biological psychology & anatomy of the nervous system. Ethical issues on human experimentation - ethical constraints on animals are less strict than humans. Ethically allowed to do things that are(cid:374)"t allo(cid:449)ed i(cid:374) hu(cid:373)a(cid:374)s. Animals share a foundational biology with humans - simplified systems to see how two variables interact. Share many of the same psychobiological pathways. Life spans are shorter, breed faster - we can get a lot more data on a life span and look at generational data. We are not the exact same as animals and are not able to study the complex systems exclusive to the human body in animals. Animals may react differently to certain procedures than a human would. Not all processes are the same between animals and humans - cerebral cortex. Animals cannot tell us how they"re thi(cid:374)ki(cid:374)g or feeli(cid:374)g - we can only get data based on their behavior. Animals cannot follow instructions or report their experiences.
