Socialization (the way in which society educates us on how we are and aren"t supposed to act) Social cognition - the cognitive processes people use to interpret, analyze and remember social information. Causal attribution: process of explaining the causal nature of events. Personal attribution: attribution based on internal characteristics (personality, talent, moods and effort. Situational attribution: attribution based on external factors (luck, government, religion) Locus of control: generalized beliefs about the control of one"s personal and situational behavior (and the behavior of others) Internal locus of control (iloc): individual assumes personal responsibility for life events. Believes that their sense of control originates from within them. External locus of control (eloc): person accepts uncontrollable forces that determine life events. Has to accept that there are external, uncontrollable forces that control the person"s life and can"t gain personal control.
