It made clear that the oceans belong to no country, but to every living thing on earth. However, overfishing, oil drilling, deep sea mining, pollution and climate change are killing the 70% of our earth that is the ocean. Despite this horrific realization, the citizens of the world are finally coming together to do something to save our oceans. An ocean treaty will be established in 2020, on top of the ross sea treaty that was established in 2016. In 2017, governments responsible for the antarctic had a meeting to discuss the future of the continent and its waters proposing the antarctic ocean sanctuary.
