ANAT 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Melanosome, Eccrine Sweat Gland, Contact Inhibition
Document Summary
Three main parts: superficial, thin epithelial tissue epidermis (avascular, deep, thick connective tissue dermis (vasular, subcutaneous layer (subq): underneath the dermis. Storage for fat and has large blood supply. Has 4 types of cells: keratinocytes. Make keratin (protein for protection: melanocytes. Make pigment melanin (brown/ black pigment that contribute to skin color and absorbs uv light) Transfers melanin to the keratinocytes so they can form a veil over the nucleus and protect it from uv: intraepidermal macrophages. From red marrow and move to epidermis to constitute epidermal cells. Participate in immune response: tactile epithelial. Contact the tactile disc which detect touch sensations. Has 4 strata (thin skin): stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, thin stratum corneum. Has 5 layers for thick skin areas (finger, palm and sole): stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum only thick skin, thick stratum corneum.
