ANAT 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Melanoma, Eccrine Sweat Gland, Sunburn
Document Summary
Keratin makes the cell more resilient and tougher. Heat is not good for the body therefore we sweat to remove it. Exocrine glands-have ducts(tubes) secretes substances to surface so the body can evaportate the sweat. Endocrine-no ducts secrete substances to circulatory system communicate throughout the body. Thick-covers palms of hand and soles of feet(no hair) Has 2 major layers of skin outer-epidermis and inner-dermis. Beneath the skin is called subcutaneous(subq) also known as hypodermis located underneath the dermis. Epidermis is the keratinized stratiied squamous epithelium. Keratinocytes (90%)-the keratin that makes it tough and provides protection. Melanocytes (8%)-gives it its color and tone of skin; protects from the uv light. Intraepidermal macrophages- produced in the bone marrow(red bone marrow). After they"re produced, they go to the blood until they get to the skin/epidermis. Tactile epithelial cells- cells that are respoibile for textyure/touch. Composed of four layers in thin skin and ive layers of thick skin.
